“100 Resilient Cities”: Addressing Urban Violence and Creating a World of Ordinary Resilient Cities

Although the use of resilience in international relations and urban planning has given rise to a growing body critical research, this contested concept continues feature prominently conversation on development cities. Taking 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) network pioneered by Rockefeller Foundation as case study, article exposes some challenges inherent implementation global model resilience. Exploring initiatives related violence prevention member cities Medellin, Cali (Colombia), Chicago (United States), Belfast (Northern Ireland), study will look at practices officers, position created 100RC network, determine whether it can be considered new profession field planning. It also question category cities, suggesting that networks centered serve globalizing agents for “ordinary cities” (Robinson 2006). Finally, maintains although flexible elusive definition promoted facilitated circulation concept, its one-size-fits-all approach implied significant led cases depoliticization.
